Ningen Cryptid

From modern Japanese folklore, a Ningen is often referred to as an eerie humanoid whale. It has pale blue or white skin, is 20 to 30 meters long, and has void-like eyes and a mouth. Some say it has human arms and swam like one, while others say it grew legs to venture onto land.

I wanted to find a way to give it an eerie look while leaning into the whale side. So, I elongated the fins, merged the anatomy with that of a human arm, and added hints of boney fingers emerging from the fins, almost as if it was evolving from a whale into a Ningen. While I imagine this Ningen would swim through the ocean like most whales, I still wanted to make it look like it could reach out and wrap its fins around its prey if it chose to do so.

Overall, this was a fun creature to research, so I hope everyone enjoys my interpretation of this creature from the arctic deep!
